1st goal : Cofie 2
2nd goal : Brady 10
3rd goal : King 27

United's youngsters picked up their first win of the season with a comfortable victory over Tottenham, thanks to first-half goals from John Cofie, Robbie Brady and Josh King.

It took the Reds just two minutes to open the scoring, Nicky Ajose played the ball through for Cofie who held off the defender before firing a low finish into the far corner.

It got better for United with ten minutes on the clock; King won possession deep inside the Tottenham half and released Ajose down the right wing. His low cross was mis-hit by Ryan Tunnicliffe but fell to Brady who steadied himself before lashing the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

It was one-way traffic and Tunnicliffe almost added United's third after 20 minutes, Ajose was again the creator, his cross finding the Bury-born midfielder unmarked in the centre only for his header to drop inches wide with the goalkeeper beaten.

But the Reds didn't have to wait much longer for goal number three, as King latched on to a Cofie flick-on, calmly rounded the goalkeeper and slid the ball into the empty net to put the game beyond doubt for Paul McGuinness' side.

Spurs rarely threatened in the remainder of the first half, although Conor Devlin had to be alert to deny Harry Kane from distance. But shortly after the restart they did respond, Paul McBride's jinking run took him into the penalty area and although Devlin was able to keep out his initial shot, Kudus Oyenuga bundled home the rebound from close range. However, it was little more than a consolation.

Even after the goal the Reds looked the more likely to add to the scoring. First King shot just wide after a superb solo run had taken him clear of the defence, then Brady saw his back-post header tipped over after more good play from the outstanding Ajose. Overall it was a well-deserved first three points of the season.
