he'll up for it :I

Quote:
NOW we will find out if Manchester United really are a one-man team.

Nothing ruffles more feathers on the terraces, among coaching staff and, maybe, even in the dressing room than talk that Wayne Rooney has been carrying this United team all season. That it is solely his goals that have made one of the more ordinary United sides of the past two decades into the surprise force they are this season. Chasing, as they still are, both the Champions League and a fourth successive title to go with the League Cup they won at Wembley last month.

Well, the injury suffered by Rooney in the last minute here will tell us all we need to know. And whether United have the players to continue their three-pronged silverware assault. There is little doubt the sight of the England star hobbling off was a far more grievous blow than the simultaneous shot by Ivica Olic that won Bayern the match.

If it was a major setback for Alex Ferguson and United's fan base, it was a huge boost for Premier League title rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.

United had looked nailed on for a 19th title that would deliver Fergie the goal he proclaimed was his ultimate target when he first assumed the throne at Old Trafford. To pass Liverpool's mark of 18. Which, seeing United had won only seven when he arrived in 1986, seemed a trifle optimistic, even given Fergie's love of a long-odds punt.

With his old mate Sam Allardyce getting a performance from his Blackburn side that saw a sharing of the points with Chelsea, few were betting against Ferguson finally overtaking Liverpool's haul.

Then Chelsea responded with 12 goals in two games against Portsmouth and Villa. Now they go to Old Trafford on Saturday with United's most potent force missing.
And knowing that, despite Ferguson's best efforts, his players' minds will be half on the following Wednesday's second leg with Bayern. It is a five-day spell that could cause enormous damage to their season.

It could see them out of Europe - they have now only beaten the Germans once in eight - with Chelsea seizing the initiative in the title race. It will demand the best of all Ferguson's tactical and psychological planning.Psychological in the fact that he will have to convince some of his players that they CAN produce season-defining results without Rooney.

Yes, they won 4-0 at Bolton last Saturday. But that opposition doesn't compare with Chelsea or a Bayern side who showed enormous character in coming back from the shock of conceding after just 66 seconds to finally overhaul United.

Those in the camp that believe United are a one-man team - or too heavily dependent on Rooney - point to the fact that until Dimitar Berbatov took his tally to 12 against Bolton, United's second top scorer was the opposition. Jlloyd Samuel's goal that sent United on their way at the Reebok was the 11th own goal chalked up for them this season.

So the time has arrived for Berbatov to cast off the cloak of indifference that has generally shrouded his time since his £32million move from Tottenham.

No one can deny the Bulgarian's overall form and goal tally has been a very poor return on United's vast investment.

Is he a big-match player? The statistics suggest otherwise.

He may have a dozen goals this season but they have all come against teams like Wigan, Portsmouth, Burnley, Bolton, Hull, Blackburn, Stoke and Sunderland. The goal he did get against half-decent opposition was at Everton. United lost 3-1.

On the evidence, we appear to have a flat-track bully. Well, Berbatov has a chance to prove otherwise over this vital spell.Sure, he is an immensely-gifted player. But it's what goes on in his head - rather than with his feet - that is the real concern. Those who argue against the one-man theory talk of the impressive form of Antonio Valencia and how Nani is finally turning into the player United always hoped he would do.

But they have just been the conduits for many of Rooney's goals. The question now is just WHO will put the ball in the net.
As for last night's defeat, care of Olic's winner with the last kick of the match, United had it coming after resting on the laurels of Rooney's stunning opener.
Told United had started so well, Ferguson disagreed.

He said: "We might have scored early but we didn't start well at all. We gave the ball away too easily all night. That was a big disappointment as that is something we pride ourselves on."
No doubt, a touch of complacency crept in.

The United players may have also been lulled into a false sense of security after having been told so often they had the easier side of the draw - had only to turn up in Munich and, then, France to book into the final with Barcelona in Madrid.

Now they have to not only overcome Bayern but fate.Beaten twice by the Germans in the 2001 quarter-final and again last night, the miracle victory of the Nou Camp in 1999 continues to haunt them.

crucial time - again, have faith for the boys to do their job.

with only 3 fit striker available ( Berba, Kiko & Diouf ) this is a real chance for them to step up and do the job. believe they should be up for it

anyway agak risau sbb season ni, usually lps travel utk away games kat Europe United agak jarang produce results yg meyakinkan....but they'll usually bounce right up after the defeat, so just let wait n'see. still +ve though.

agak2 chelsea pakai formasi sama 4-5-1 tak mcm sblm ni? lampard main AMF support Anelka, Drogba dok bench lagi?
