Report: Chelsea Ready To Increase Offer For Milan's Pirlo

Another of the summer's long-running transfer sagas has taken another twist as reports suggest that Chelsea will increase their offer for Andrea Pirlo, while Milan appear to have taken a step towards lining up his replacement.

According to English tabloid The Daily Mirror, Chelsea are ready to increase their first offer of €9.5 million plus Claudio Pizarro to €11.8m plus the South American.

This second offer is believed to be more acceptable to Milan's directors, who are intending to use Pizarro as a bargaining chip of their own in a deal for Sevilla's Luis Fabiano.

The Rossoneri will still require a replacement for Pirlo, should he make the move to London, and reports are suggesting that Leonardo is lining up Mahamadou Diarra. The Real Madrid midfielder missed much of last season through injury, but could find his place under threat if Xabi Alonso completes his move to the Spanish capital.

Leonardo: Milan Will Try To Keep Andrea Pirlo

Milan coach Leonardo has indicated that it will take a substantial offer from Chelsea in order to lure midfielder Andrea Pirlo to their side.

The Blues have reportedly been chasing the Italian international, but Leonardo would like to keep the playmaker at the San Siro.

"We will do everything for Pirlo to remain," the former Brazilian international explained to a fan, who asked about the Italian's future, according to tuttomeratoweb.

The coach is set to meet tomorrow with president Silvio Berlusconi and CEO Adriano Galliani in order to discuss the way forward for the club, who have struggled both domestically and in Europe the past two seasons.

The Rossoneri have already sold star man Kaka to Real Madrid this summer, and have only picked up defender Oguchi Onyewu on a free transfer, as well as brought back Massimo Oddo and Ignazio Abate after their loans expired.

Pirlo has played for the club since 2001, making over 320 appearances in all competitions.

Pato: Chelsea Wanted Me, But I Did Not Want To Leave Milan

Milan striker Alexandre Pato insists he has no intention of joining Chelsea and he has revealed he snubbed them during the summer transfer market.

Blues boss Ancelotti was reportedly keen on the Brazilian ace and it is said he had a mega bid for Pato turned down by the Italian giants.

Pato has admitted he was wanted by the Premier League side, but he was in no mood to make the switch.

"I know that they [Chelsea] wanted me, but I never thought about leaving," Pato told La Stampa.

"It's true that I wanted to see Ancelotti, but not to join him in London.

"I was not there when he said goodbye to my team-mates at the end of the season, and this is why I wanted to see him. I spoke to him after and I will always be grateful to him for teaching me.

"However, I will not leave, I will stay with Leonardo."

Milan have not had the best of pre-season's. Sceptics have raised eyebrows following a shaky summer, but Pato has warned the critics to expect a backlash from his side.

"Everyone who doesn't trust this team is wrong. People have been quick to judge, but we know how we have been working in training," added the hitman.

"We have the quality and the will to do well. We are not inferior to anyone."
