Post Liverpool eye £10m Fernando Amorebieta
De Jong agrees City switch
Eurosport - Wed, 21 Jan 18:40:00 2009

Manchester City completed their third major January signing when Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong joined the Premier League's big spenders.

A statement on City's website said the 24-year-old international had signed a four-and-a-half year contract after they had agreed an undisclosed fee with Bundesliga club Hamburg.

De Jong, who has played 29 times for his country, joins England full-back Wayne Bridge - who arrived this month from Chelsea - and Wales striker Craig Bellamy from West Ham United.

City, owned by Abu Dhabi billionaire Sheikh Mansour bin Zayad al Nahyan, failed this week in an audacious bid to sign former World Player of the Year Kaka from Milan.

However, the club's executive chairman Garry Cook said there could be more signings before the window closes.

"We've got a couple of others that we're still working on and it's unfair to comment too deeply on those," Cook told the club's website.

"We had very clear plans going into (the transfer window). We're ticking the boxes as we say."

City lie 11th in the Premier League table but only four points above the teams in the relegation zone.

it's their money to waste, we shouldn't care much unless they're bidding for our players..

BREAKING NEWS Barcelona Set To Take Robinho On Loan?

Barcelona look set to complete a deal that will see them sign Robinho on loan from Manchester City for one season with a view to making the move permanent next year, Catalan television are reporting.

TV3 state that an agreement will be done in the next few hours after the Blaugrana made their interest official and talks to iron out the details are going on at the moment.

Robinho has stated that he would welcome a move back to the Spanish league and Pep Guardiola is a known fan of the Brazilian star after he stated he would have liked to have signed him 12 months ago...

Manchester City Quash Robinho To Barcelona Rumours

Spanish newspaper Sport had recently reported that Brazilian ace Robinho had been heavily linked with a move to Spanish champions Barcelona. However, Manchester City's chief executive, Garry Cook, had other thoughts.

"The story is completely without foundation. Robinho has always been a highly valued member of our team and that continues to be the case," Cook told the club's official website.

"Reports suggesting he will leave the football club, either on loan or on a permanent deal, are absolutely untrue."

Barca were said to be interested in prising the forward away from the Citizens by activating a clause in the players contract in the wake of City's failure to qualify for Europe. It seems now, though - even in light of Dani Alves' quoted admiration for the player in the very same paper - that the links are without substance.

City's chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak has also clearly stated his intent, both vocally and through the large sums of money being offered for big name players, that he wishes to expand and solidify the club, not sell players on.

Barcelona Could Land Liverpool ‘Keeper Pepe Reina For €20m - Report

It was reported yesterday that Barcelona are considering making a move for Liverpool shot-stopper Pepe Reina should they fail to secure a contract extension for current No. 1, Victor Valdes.

And according to El Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana could land the Reds goalkeeper, who has a contract with the Anfield outfit until 2014, for around €20 million (₤17.5), even though Rafa Benitez has never put a valuation on a player he considers indispensable and the Catalans have never hinted at making an approach.

Meanwhile, Barca captain Carles Puyol, currently away on Confederations Cup duty with Spain, has told the paper’s correspondent in South Africa that he categorically denies acting as the mediator in the deal to bring Reina back to the Camp Nou.

Rumours that Barcelona had already offered the 26-year-old a five-year contract worth €5 million per season have also been rejected.
