i would hate to have a formation without a striker.. it might work nicely but the game will lose it's identity a lil bit.. we need at least a striker in a game..huhu..

Everton turn to Steven Taylor

Moyes, who is still determined to hang on to Lescott if at all possible, has turned to Taylor after his attempts to sign Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos fell through earlier in the summer.

The Everton manager turned down a written transfer request from Lescott after also snubbing two bids from City, the last of which was in the region of £18 million.

City nonetheless remain hopeful a deal can be struck before the end of the month after the player publicly stated that he wanted to leave Goodison Park.

City’s representatives are confident Everton chairman Bill Kenwright will be more open to discussion than Moyes has been so far.

“People need to be able to get in a position where they can speak and discuss whether or not the situation can be moved forward and that hasn’t happened yet,” said Hughes.

“We’re still trying to speak to the people that will ultimately make the decision whether or not the deal continues. I think those conversations are still taking place, but how long they’ll stay active is open to debate.”

If Taylor, the former England Under-21 captain, were to leave Newcastle he would join a long list of departed players including Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins, Sebastien Bassong, Habib Beye and Mark Viduka.

Meanwhile, David O’Leary will not be the next permanent Newcastle manager after failing to agree a deal with the club’s owner Mike Ashley.

Liverpool Join Hunt For Newcastle's Steven Taylor - Report

Newcastle United's much coveted centre-back Steven Taylor has gained another potential suitor in Premier League runners-up Liverpool.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle claims the Reds are keen on the former England Under-21 captain, but will join Aston Villa and Everton in the battle for his signature.

Everton manager David Moyes has kept a close eye on Taylor as the Joleon Lescott transfer saga rumbles on but has also sounded out Arsenal over the availability of Swiss defender Philippe Senderos.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has reportedly been alerted to Taylor's discontent with the situation at Newcastle by former Toon stars James Milner and Habib Beye.

Whilst Taylor has not expressed any desire to leave Newcastle he is widely regarded to be playing in a level below that of his ability.

Transfer turmoil has caused the departure of many players from Tyneside this summer as the appointment of manager-in-waiting Alan Shearer failed to materialise.

However Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias confirmed the club are in talks with local businessman Barry Moat and two other interested parties regarding the sale of the club.

A quick sale and immediate appointment of Shearer as manager could help the Magpies hold on to Taylor and other stars at the club.

Newcastle's staggering wage bill has been slashed with the exit of big earners Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka and Damien Duff, who completed a move to Fulham on Tuesday.

Everton In Talks To Sign Steven Taylor

Everton have tonight moved to boost their defensive options, as the likelihood of Joleon Lescott's moving to Manchester City increases almost minute by minute, as the Toffees are now in negotiations with Newcastle United regarding a bid for England Under-21 centre-back Steven Taylor, according to Sky Sports News.

The Toffees have endured a frustrating summer in the transfer market, despite manager David Moyes working hard behind the scenes to attempt to secure the reinforcement required to boost the side as they look to build on last season's fifth-placed finish.

Lescott's attitude has been condemned by the Scotsman in recent days, and he was dropped from the squad that is taking on Sigma Olomouc in tonight's Europa League play-off first leg at Goodison Park, as reports of an imminent £22 million switch to Eastlands begin to gain increased credibility.

Scouts from Everton were reportedly seen at St James' Park last night watching the Toon's 1-0 Championship win over Sheffield Wednesday, and it now seems that Taylor, also rumoured to be a target for Arsenal and Liverpool, was the man they were watching.
